APHEDA joins call to give developing countries access to COVID-19 vaccines

Mar 10, 2021

Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA has sign onto a joint letter with the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and civil society organisations calling on the Australian government to support a World Health Organization (WHO) proposal to suspend vaccines patents during the pandemic. This will give developing countries access to make cheap copies of COVID-19 vaccines and will save lives.

“What’s needed in the face of this pandemic is global solidarity – Australia has a duty to support developing countries to protect their people from this virus and save as many lives as possible… The Morrison Government should value people’s health and wellbeing over putting more money in the hands of Big Pharma.” – Michele O’Neil, President Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU)
