This year is special. We celebrate four decades of Australian unionists coming together to build something greater than themselves, driven by a deep sense of solidarity. 

We are proud to have a strong trade union movement capable of creating an international humanitarian organisation like Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA. Through our international solidarity, we have stood alongside workers and communities in key struggles for democracy and justice across the globe.

Meet our guest speakers 

  • Felix Anthony is the National Secretary of the Fijian Trade Union Congress (FTUC) and has a long career of standing up for the rights of unionists and workers across the Pacific. Felix, who has been arrested for his union organising, was also recently re-elected as the President of the International Trade Union Confederation-Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP), a position he has held since 2015.  Felix is also the General Secretary of the National Union of Workers, representing workers in private industries. 

 

  • Tanya Toailoa is the Secretary of the Samoa Workers Congress (SWC). In 2014, she was one of the founding members of SWC during her time as the executive of the Samoa National Provident Fund Staff Association. As a lawyer by profession, she assists affiliates with legal advice and assistance, training members in labour laws and policies. Tanya is on the board of Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG), the main NGO in Samoa that advocates and cares for victims of sexual abuse, especially children. SVSG operates the only shelters for abandoned children and women escaping domestic violence.
