Help support global solidarity in your workplace & community

Activists in Australia play a vital role in fostering global solidarity within their unions and communities. No matter your background or experience, your time and skills can make a difference. Whether you’re new to international solidarity or have years of experience, you are a crucial part of the collective strength that builds our movement.

From supporting fundraisers to advocacy, there’s a role for everyone, based on what you’re comfortable contributing.

VOLUNTEER

You can support one-off events like fundraisers, campaigns, or other activities by lending a hand to Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA or our activist groups.

JOIN AN ACTIVIST GROUP

Become part of a local activist group in VIC, QLD, SA, ACT, or WA. These grassroots groups lead international solidarity initiatives by:

    • Promoting internationalism within unions.
    • Hosting events and fundraisers.
    • Building local support for our campaigns.
    • Strengthening global solidarity through collective action.

JOIN THE EDUCATORS GROUP

If you have skills or experience in education, particularly in union or internationalism training, join our team of educators. This group has developed training modules on global justice and solidarity, designed for unions and civil society organisations to use as educational resources.

Building solidarity across borders: Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA depends upon the contributions of our members, supporting unions, and activists. You can play a part by sharing the stories from our projects, campaigns, and appeals in your union, workplace, and community.

Your time can become a monetary donation

Did you know that the time you spend informing and educating others in Australia about development and humanitarian issues can be donated to Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA as part of the Australian Government’s Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).

How It Works
If you lodge your time spent volunteering with us, ANCP will make a monetary contribution to us. Examples of eligible activities include:

    • Training or speaking to union colleagues.
    • Writing articles for union or community journals.
    • Assisting with speaking tours.
    • Presenting to community or union groups.

*It does not include fundraising activities.

By lodging these hours with us, you will actively contribute to our mission and help us meet Australian Government requirements. For additional information about the ANCP program, visit the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) here.

APHEDA Events

Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA hosts events throughout the year to bring unionists, activists, and supporters together in solidarity. Whether you’re attending in person or online, every event is an opportunity to strengthen the movement and show your support for workers and communities fighting for dignity, equality, and human rights.
