Record Attendance For Sydney APHEDA Dinner
A new record was set at the Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA Annual Sydney Fundraising Dinner on September 8. The attendance figure was higher than any other year, with nearly 400 people purchasing tickets to hear Dr John Falzon speak.
Dr Falzon has been the Chief Executive of the St Vincent Paul Society National Council of Australia since 2006 and is a passionate advocate for social justice. He gave an inspiring and entertaining keynote address, which was met by a standing ovation.
The dinner was held at the UTS Aerial Function Centre and was well supported unions in NSW, union law firms and APHEDA members. It was a terrific result to have 11 tables with 100% density of APHEDA members. An additional 42 new or returning members also signed up on the night. The evening was hosted by ACTU President Ged Kearney with a welcome drop-in by the Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.
The dinner, which was a CUB-free event, also picked up a good social media following with #APHEDAdinner trending on Twitter in Sydney and Melbourne (just behind the AFL Finals and The Bachelor). To check it all out online visit our twitter recap and our Facebook photo album
QLD Trivia Night
Brisbane’s annual union trivia night raised $7,000 for Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA!
Organised by our QLD APHEDA activists on Friday 9th of September, the night was attended by well over 100 people, including teams from unions, union law firms and community groups.
The CUB boycott was in effect, of course! The event was packed and more than a dozen people joined as APHEDA members on the night. A number of the teams were made up of 100% APHEDA members.
Many attendees at the trivia night had been involved in the Lady Cilento Blockade and so the bidding for this special First Dog On The Moon cartoon about that struggle was fierce – Pat Rogers from the ETU was the eventual winner. You can check out all the photos here.
