The Union Aid Abroad Sydney global solidarity dinner is back for another year!
Join us on Tuesday, September 12 at Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club for a memorable night of entertainment and international solidarity.
Dr Sean Turnell will deliver the keynote address. Sean is an Australian academic and former economic adviser to Myanmar’s National League for Democracy. He spent 20 months in prison after the military’s February 2021 coup, finally being released in November last year.
Hear Sean’s extraordinary story of being arrested and imprisoned at the notorious Insein prison following the coup. It was thanks to the support of other political prisoners that he was able to survive. Dr Turnell is also an advocate of economic sanctions against the military junta. Come along and hear him speak about the extraordinary nation-wide civil disobedience movement and why people in Myanmar want to cut off the money flow to the military dictators.
The dinner is more than just a fundraising event. By hearing about workers’ struggles abroad, we can strengthen the internationalism of our movement. You’ll also have the chance to connect with other like-minded people who share your passion for global solidarity.
Tickets include a three-course meal with drinks available at bar prices. As in previous years, there will be a raffle, silent auction and live auction on the night – giving you plenty of opportunity to win fantastic prizes while contributing to our cause.
Last year’s dinner sold out, so book your table today to make sure you don’t miss out.
