APHEDA activists organised a morning tea to discuss international solidarity at PSA in New South Wales.

This year has been a tough one for communities around the world. But even in hard times, our message has stayed the same — there’s hope in solidarity

We know this story well. When conditions at work are harsh and the boss is a bully, what do we do?

We organisestand together, and fight back

That same spirit of collective action drives our members and activists across Australia. Throughout October, they’ve been putting solidarity into action by having conversations, hosting morning teas, and holding workplace meetings to encourage their colleagues to join Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA

At PSA in NSW, for instance, staff joined a morning tea to discuss the Myanmar junta’s planned sham elections. And in QLD, we joined with the MUA, the QCU and other long-term supporters to welcome home Australian unionist and MUA seafarer, Hamish Paterson, who was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which aimed to break the siege and deliver aid to the shores of Gaza. Funds were raised on the night for our Gaza Appeal to support the ongoing humanitarian relief work of MA’AN Development Centre in Palestine.

Activists also took the opportunity at the NSWNMA delegate day to run an educational ‘Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA’ stall and encouraged all those in attendance to take action. For some, this meant becoming an APHEDA member and encouraging others to do the same by wearing ‘I stand for Global Justice’ stickers; for others, this meant supporting those fighting for democracy in Myanmar by signing the ACTU and Myanmar Campaign Networks co-authored petition.

To everyone who took part – thank you and congratulations. Your efforts are helping build stronger unions and a stronger movement for international solidarity.

Why we step up

We’re stepping up because we have to. Around the world, workers are facing exploitation, displacement, and climate disasters, but together, we can make a difference.

Getting active with Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA is simple. When you join, you’re not giving to charity – you’re joining a movement for change. You’re standing with workers who are fighting for safer jobs, fair pay, and justice across borders.

How you can get involved
