When governments attack aid and development, it’s often been union movement solidarity organisations like us that are hit first and hardest. This has certainly been the case for our sister organisations in Europe and the US, who have faced devastating cuts. At Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA, we have always understood this risk, but also know that worker-to-worker solidarity cannot be cut, regardless of who is in power.

Governments everywhere must engage full diplomatic links to spell out the consequences of this approach to the US Government during this review period. The US cannot abrogate its global responsibilities, but if this funding suspension becomes permanent, then governments globally must be prepared to step in to fill the breach.
