The Viet Nam Women’s Academy, in collaboration with the Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA, held an international workshop in Ha Noi called “Enhancing Opportunities for Women Candidates to be Elected to People’s Councils at All Levels”.

Just months after Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA opened its doors, Vietnam’s Minister of Health travelled to Australia with a clear message: Vietnam was emerging from years of devastation and isolation, and it wanted to rebuild alongside Australian workers.

In the lead-up to Vietnam’s 2026 National Assembly and People’s Council elections, women across four provinces are preparing to lead – with the backing of a community-driven project that’s shifting the face of local politics.

20 years ago, Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA established an office in Vietnam, a testament to the enduring solidarity between Australian workers and their Vietnamese counterparts. From supporting women leaders to promoting workers’ health and safety, the Vietnam office has been working hard.
